President Gloria Arroyo: Pls instruct your people to name this bridge "Butuan Bridge" not Diosdado M
This new bridge, located in Butuan City, Mindanao, Philippines, is the creation of many years and many Presidents, namely, Marcos, Aquino, Ramos, Estrada, and Arroyo.
The Japanese people have lent money for its construction; and the Filipino taxpayers will be paying this loan for years if not decades to come.
It's one of the most beautiful bridges in the country. It is a symbol of progress, unity, lofty ideals, and human genius.
Local officials, prompted by a sense of misdirected politeness, have moved to name it in honor of Pres. Arroyo's father, the late Pres. Diosdado Macapagal. Presently a bill will be filed in Congress making the name into law.
In fairness to Pres. Arroyo, she had no hand in this and perhaps out of a sense of graciousness she has not stopped this move by her political allies.
Filipinos from all over the world have been polled as to their choice of name for the newly finished multi-billion pesos bridge. The majority choice is "Butuan Bridge."
Mrs. President, we appeal to your higher sense of justice and respect for the will of the people. Please tell your allies and partymates in Congress to pass a law naming the megastructure "Butuan Bridge."
