Prosecute Horse Slaughtering In South Florida

We believe there has developed over the past two years a large, illegal black market for horse meat, and as a result horses are paying the price. SPCA investigators in Florida said they think the meat fetches from $20 to $40 a pound. A 1,200-pound horse can yield hundreds of pounds of meat. But no one in Broward or Miami Dade counties has been prosecuted for buying or selling. Detectives are looking into all aspects and theories reported, but right now there is no information. No one wants to come forward. Mean while the police department in Miami Dade County is not investigating this to its fullest. Sometimes the thieves begin to butcher the animal even before it dies, says SPCA officiales. A member of several horse owners groups, said she thinks the thefts and slaughters are under-reported by half. We need to plaster this all over the news and news papers daily, we need to look into the Laws for Horses, we need to help pass horse transportation national laws.
