Sanctuary for Chimpanzees, Not Medical Research

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) plans to move 200 chimpanzees to the Southwest National Primate Research Facility in San Antonio, Texas, where they can be used in painful, invasive experiments.

They are presently at the Alamogordo Primate Facility (APF) in New Mexico. Since 2001, chimpanzees have been housed at APF, where they cannot be used for research.

Please ask Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to keep the chimpanzees in New Mexico and build a sanctuary there for them. Maintenance & Protection (CHIMP) Act of 2000, she has the authority to retire them to the federal sanctuary system.
