Save Healthy Racehorses in Puerto Rico from Unnecessary Euthanasia

Over 400 horses are killed every year because their owners cannot afford to pay the upkeep for a horse that won't make them money from winning races. Unlike in the mainland United States, there are no shelters for the horses to stay to avoid an untimely death.

Secretary Laboy,
We, the undersigned are concerned over the welfare of racehorses in your country. We ask that you may consider allowing some funding to go toward the foundation of a shelter or sanctuary where healthy racehorses can retire instead of being euthanized. We do not feel like it is right to breed horses as if they are a product and then dispose of them when they are no longer practical. Animals are not objects; they are living, breathing, feeling beings that do not deserve such a fate.
