Stop the Gypsy Moth Spray

* Whereas the insecticide bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki (Btk) and its encompassing formula Foray 48B have had reported adverse health effects

* Whereas the spray will encompass 626-acres and over 1200 South Eugene homes

* Whereas only 7 moths have been identified in the area

* Whereas the insecticide is known to drift beyond its targeted area and that area will include homes, parks, schools, and nursing homes

* Whereas the Btk/Foray 48B insecticide kills moth and butterfly larvae of species other than the targeted gypsy moth

* Whereas other, non-chemical dependent methods have not yet been attempted to eradicate the gypsy moth

The undersigned urge the Oregon Department of Agriculture to attempt a non-chemical based method (i.e. pheromone trapping) to eradicate the gypsy moth before resorting to use of the Btk insecticide.
