Wilmington Ciclovia
Close off approximately 6 miles of city streets and open them to bikes and pedestrian traffic only from 8 AM to 2 PM on Sunday. Date TBD but the goal is to have this a regularly occurring event. Route TBD.
The idea originates from the Ciclovia, a hugely successful event in Bogota, Columbia. Similar events have taken place in Portland, OR.
We the undersigned propose to close off 6 miles or more of city streets on a Sunday and open them to bikes and pedestrian traffic only. This will be a fun family oriented activity promoting health and alternative forms of transportation. It will help create a better community and restore faith in people and society. It is a low-cost, high-return event that everyone can participate in. We feel Wilmington is an idea place for this type of event. We would like to have a trial run, with the goal of making this a weekly event. Thank you for your time.
