Stop the senseless killing of our native wildlife

Not only did DELWP start the Lancefield-Cobaw fire that burnt so many animals in October 2015, but they then issued a cull permit for Kangaroos on the property next to the shelter where injured Kangaroos from that fire were taken.

Now, despite a public media outcry, the shooting has started, with at least 24 dead in the first night.

But that's not the end of it. Under the Australian Government's National Code of Practice for the Humane Shooting of Kangaroos and Wallabies (non-commercial purposes), it indicates that:

"A shooter using a rifle must aim so as to hit the target Kangaroo or wallaby in the brain."

"A shooter must not aim so as to hit the target kangaroo or wallaby in any other part of the body..."

The Code further goes to describe that a heart shot is only acceptable on injured animals.

None of the 24 shots were head shots. Rather, they were all body shots. These kangaroos suffered as did the Joeys who were left for dead and did die overnight.

It doesn't end there. Despite being shown evidence of this breach of the code of practice for ALL Kangaroos shot on the first night.... DELWP is allowing the cull (slaughter) to continue during the course of their investigations.

How is this acceptable?
