Petition to Bring Back Decency in Girls' Fashion

  • af: hjahangiri
  • mottagare: Celebrities, Fashion Designers, Media, Makers of Children's Clothing, Retailers of Children's Clothing
WHEREAS little girls and young women want to wear fashionable clothes;

WHEREAS what is "fahionable" is often defined by the dress and behavior of celebrities little girls and young women strive to emulate;

WHEREAS the bulk of affordable, off-the-rack clothing marketed to little girls and young women that is available in department stores and discount stores could best be described as "little streetwalker in training" clothes;

We, the undersigned, ask that the makers of children's clothing stop pandering to the unhealthy desire of little girls and young women to seek attention -- like their favorite celebrities -- by wearing overly revealing, tacky, utterly age-inappropriate fashions and bring back modest, attractive, durable, age-appropriate clothing for little girls and young women.

For clothing marketed to school aged children, we ask that public school dress codes be considered.

We ask that retailers of children's clothing refuse to buy overly revealing, age- and school-inappropriate outfits to market to children and young women and, instead, use their buying power to urge designers and makers of children's clothing to offer more modest, appropriate styles for children and young women.

Further, we ask that all young celebrities and those who hire or promote them acknowledge their responsibility as role models to the children who are their fans, and that they behave and dress accordingly, promoting the efforts of the makers of children's clothing to make modest, attractive, durable, and age-appropriate clothing "fashionable."

Thank you.
