ALL ADULT SPORTS IN FAIRFAX COUNTY NEED YOUR HELP!!!!
It has come to our attention that the Fairfax County Athletic Council has revised the county's Field Allocation Policy and it is up for approval by the Board of Supervisors within the next few weeks. As part of the revision they have included the following wording that will allow youth leagues to use the Turf & Softball Fields weekdays until 9PM (see below).
Section IV: Limitations on Facility Use, Section B:
Time designated for youth activities may run until approximately 9PM Adults may start before 9PM if time is not needed for youth or in accordance with existing, written agreement. Use times may be modified to accommodate restrictions in place for a particular field, and this is particularly applicable to fields with lights. The dates of availability of FCPA fields are defined by FCPA Park Regulations.
What does this mean for you???
Currently, soccer games are 80 minutes (two 40 minute halves) which allows for 2 games per field while our flag football games are 60 minutes which allow for 3 games per field with an 8PM - 11PM time slot. We believe that if this passes, we will no longer be able to have multiple games on a field per night and the availability of enough turf fields for all the leagues in the area will drastically reduce. This means ALL adult sports (flag football, soccer, lacrosse, softball, kickball, etc.) will be needing/fighting for more field space (which we don’t currently have) in a smaller window each night.
Back in 2008, the youth group end time was pushed from 7:30PM to 8PM and that is why our games were shortened. Allowing the youth groups to end at an even later 9PM would get rid of half the games being played each night on each field and would cause major issues for the scheduling of our league’s games (along with the rest of the adult sports leagues in Fairfax County).
We are asking you to sign this petition so the Board of Supervisors will strike this provision and keep the current policy of adult groups receiving the fields at 8PM.
