MAKE IRISH SUPERMARKETS HAND OVER ALL UNSOLD FOOD TO CHARITIES

It's estimated that a third of all food in Europe and half in America is thrown out. In a world where so many are hungry especially children, this situation is not just wasteful, its immoral.
Rather than wasting the significant amount thats still usable, make them donate food safe to eat to food banks, the homeless and others unable to feed themselves. Encourage existing customers to donate to a delivery service to the needy.

Many supermarket chains in France already donate unsold food fit for human consumptipn to the hungry but they 63 mps have tabled to enshrine it in law making supermarkets over 1,000 sq ft give unsold produce to at least one food charity. Belgium became the first country to introduce the law in May. After the horrific effects of the recession/austerity and after all the preaching about the welfare of kids, shouldn't we be making sure those kids aren't hungry!

Instead of preaching about healthy eating, let's make sure that those on a limited income have access to fruit and vegtables. Let's take a break from squabbling about what's best for children, let's join together to make sure they have something we all know is good : a full stomach! Let's stop throwing out food while people are hungry!
