Allocate More Funds to Childhood Cancer Research

Many are unaware of how childhood cancer research is vastly underfunded and neglected. Only 3 new treatments for childhood cancer have been FDA approved in the last 30 years. Childhood cancer is the leading cause of death from disease among children in the U.S. Today, 1 in 5 kids diagnosed with cancer will not survive. For many pediatric cancers, there has been little to no advancement for treatment since the 1970's. Right now childhood cancer research receives only 4% federal government funding for all cancers combined. The National Cancer Institute spends 96% of funding on adult cancer research, while only spending 4% on pediatric cancer research. As adults, it is our responsibility to give a voice to the voiceless youth. All kids with cancer deserve safe, effective treatment options and most importantly, a chance.
