Stop Authorizing Pigeon Shoots!

Ald. James Cappleman of Chicago recently authorized a farmer named Herb Govert to round up and transport nuisance pigeons from Uptown to be shot in Indiana. According to Janet Enoch of Showing Animals Respect and Kindness, this authorization violates the Illinois Humane Care for Animals Act. Though Indiana officials have told Govert he needs a permit to import the birds, they have not taken legal action against him.

Despite common disdain toward pigeons, they are intelligent birds who care for thier young and feel physical and emotional distress. Shooting the birds is a sadistic exercise, and the birds can be controlled through sanitation, sterilization or relocation to an area where they won't annoy humans. Please sign the petition to convince Ald. James Cappleman to stop authorizing pigeon round-ups.
