Demand Members of Congress Allow Videotaping at Public Meetings

Many Republican members of Congress — and particularly those members standing shoulder-to-shoulder with President Trump — are increasingly fearful about holding public town hall meetings with their constituents.

As a result, a number of these nervous members of Congress are trying to impose restrictions on meeting attendees in a desperate attempt to contain critical comments and reactions.

One of these restrictive tactics is to prevent their constituents from videotaping the meetings, whether it's with a smartphone or a video camera. It's a move designed to ensure negative footage of the Representative interacting with their constituents does not end up on social media, receiving wider distribution.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has already warned members of Congress tempted to use this tactic that it is likely unconstitutional, impinging on the right of free assembly, particularly if the town hall is a public meeting held in a public venue (e.g.; a public library).

Please join me in demanding members of Congress hold open town hall meetings with constituents, free of any impediment or attempt to prevent us from speaking out.
