As a U.S. Army veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, I was appalled by the comments made by Bob McDonald. We clearly have an issue with wait times when it comes to the VA, so when the VA Secretary made a statement that compared that same wait time to Disney World, it was a slap in the face.
He said: "When you go to Disney, do they measure the number of hours you wait in line? Or what's important? What's important is your satisfaction with the experience?” He is obviously out of touch with veterans’ issues and needs to be removed.
Bob McDonald claims that the VA should not use wait times as a measure of success, because Disney doesn't. Hundreds of U.S veterans have died waiting on line to receive health care. I have spoken with a woman who waited 7 years to receive shoulder surgery for an injury she sustained in the army. The wait times may even contribute to the large number of veteran suicides. If you send people to war, you need to take care of them when they return!
The former VA Secretary, Sloan Gibson, resigned after his involvement in a series of scandals. McDonald has done nothing to correct the corruption, and held no one accountable. McDonald also lied about serving in the Special Forces. He should not represent veterans in this nation.
Bob McDonald is unfit to be VA Secretary, since he does not believe in doing his job and helping veterans. Veterans give their health to serve our country, and they deserve much better. Sign this petition to replace Bob McDonald with a VA Secretary who cares about veteran lives.
