Reinstate Justice for the Animals

This petition is to implore District Attorney General Bill Gibbons to reinstate Donald Siemer to serve in the position of Assistant Attorney General in the Division 14 Environmental Court.  Mr. Siemer, who has served the citizens of Memphis and Shelby County for the past 18 years, is  known as a fierce animal-welfare advocate in the Environmental Court. He stepped forward and prosecuted animal cases that would otherwise have received little if any attention.  Mr. Siemer has also been very accessible after hours when advice is needed on animal cruelty investigations.   Mr. Siemer, who once ran a large animal shelter covering four counties in New Jersey, became Shelby County's lead prosecutor on animal cruelty cases. Unfortunately, the 77-year-old prosecutor was one of five employees you laid off from the Shelby County District Attorney's Office.  His dismissal will not serve the citizens and animals of this community, instead it will enable the animal abusers to continue their illegal actions secure in the knowledge that there is no one to seriously consider the charges brought against them and diligently prosecute their cases. I respectfully ask District Attorney General William Gibbons to reinstate Donald Siemer to serve in the position of Assistant Attorney General in the Division 14 Environmental Court, Criminal Justice Center at 201 Poplar, Memphis, TN. We citizens need the passion an experience Mr. Siemer has exhibited and will continue to exhibit in that position.
I am a voting age citizen of Shelby County.
