Ban Child Beauty Pageants in Australia
American- style beauty pageants which border on child abuse are being introduced in Australia. Let's make it clear that we do not want this. Beauty pageants are cruel, demeaning, and sexualising. Children need to be playing with their friends and family and learning to play fair games, not be subjected to a competition which says self-worth is related to performing like adults. This damages children and should not be allowed in Australia. Please sign if you believe kids should be allowed to be kids.
We the undersigned are asking that you will act to prevent the introduction of child beauty pageants in Australia. You have admitted that it is wrong and we believe that it borders on child abuse. We call on you as the Minister for Youth to act to protect our children by calling for a ban on these pageants. Thank you for taking the time to read our letter and we hope you will seriously consider our petition.
