Save the Southeast Regional Library

County library officials are planning to close Southeast Regional Library in Garner later this year. The proposal is being recommended by library officials who have to trim $1.2 million from the department%u2019s budget. The Garner branch is one of the county%u2019s busier regional libraries, receiving about 650,000 visits a year. For now, the branch is slated to close in August, after the library%u2019s summer reading club wraps up.

Garner Citizen: Paul Tambasco, January 21, 2010

The citizens of Garner and the surrounding areas depend on this library. For many people, it is the only access they have to books, the internet, and reference materials. For others it is a source of entertainment, community involvement, and education.  As a hub of social and academic activity in Garner, this branch of the library is essential to the health and well-being of the citizens and the community.

We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who urge our leaders to act now to prevent the closing of the Southeast Regional Library in Garner.
This library is the social, educational, and informational hub of our community. It allows the citizens of Garner and the surrounding areas access to resources, internet, pleasure reading, educational programs, social connections, home schooling activities, and so much more.
With over 650,000 visits each year, this branch of the library is one of the busiest. We need this library. Please do not allow budget cuts to deny an entire community access to the benefits of a public library.
Thank you for reading our request.
