The number of 8 to13 year-olds on antidepressent drugs has soared SEVEN-FOLD since 1997.Dave Traxson, a senior educational psychologist who works in schools in the West Midlands, warned that children were increasingly prescribed drugs for "normal" conditions.Children have been denied therapy in favour of prescription drugs for only one reason; "drugs are far more cost effective then therapies". The average waiting time for a child with severe traumatic stress to see a therapist is 10 to 16 weeks.Most newly developped effective therapies need years of further trials to be included within the NHS approved therapies.Most affected people with traumatic stress might have only days to make a decision whether they still want to carry on living.
