Recently, 4 Jews in a school in Toulouse, France, were shot in cold blood. It is suspected that the cause was anti-Semitism.
Most world leaders referred to this as a horrible and disgusting crime against humanity. Catherine Ashton, the European Union High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, chose a different path.
While condemning the murder of Jewish children in France, she also made a comparison to Arabs in Gaza who are killed. Is this an accurate comparison?
Can Ashton legitimately compare the intentional cold blooded murder of Jews to the tragic deaths of people who are used as human shields by terrorist organizations?
A few weeks ago, she called for calm on both sides, after rockets were fired into Israel and Israel responded by targeting terrorists. She lamented the deaths of innocent civilians on both sides. Fortunately, when she made that statement, not a single civilian died. It is imperative that before speaking, she researches the topic she is speaking and makes sure that she has her facts straight. It is a scary and tragic day when a high-ranking diplomat is able to make such a grievous, biased, and dangerous error.
Can Ashton name a single country that is engaged in a similar conflict against terrorists as Israel is that has not harmed a single civilian? No such country exists. This isn't just any war, but war against terrorists.
But more so, Israel has one of the, if not the, lowest civilian to combatant death ratio in the world. The U.N. estimates a ratio of 3:1 in most world conflicts. 3 civilians for every combatant. In Gaza, when Israel launched a campaign known as Operation Cast Lead to uproot the terrorist organization Hamas (listed as a terrorist organization by the U.S., U.K., E.U., Australia, Canada, and Israel), the ratio was less than 1:1.
Israel takes many steps to ensure the safesty of civilians, and even aborts airstrikes if it feels that civilians are in harm. The Delilia missile is often used and can be aborted in midair - and it has been.
But of course, war is chaos, and tragic events will ensue.
But for Ashton to compare the intentional murder of Jews to the deaths of human shields for Hamas, Islamic JIhad, the Popular Resistance Committee, and other terrorist organizations in Gaza, is morally wrong, and morally disgusting.
It is a dark stain on humanity. A dark stain on justice.
It makes us question the extent of her bias. It makes us question where justice is. It makes us question whether the lessons of the blood libels, massacres, inquisitions, expulsions, Crusades, Cossacks, Dreyfuss Affair, Protocols of the Elders of Zion, the Holocaust, and so much more were internalized in today's current generation.
Ashton would do well to think more carefully before she utters such heinous statements, and understand more fully in what context she is placing these words. These words are truly frustrating and have no place in today's society, especially among a European diplomat.
We demand that Ashton retract her statements and be more wary for the future. This type of moral bankruptcy has no place in a European diplomat.
Dear Mrs. Ashton,
Recently, 4 Jews in Toulouse, France, were shot in cold blood. It is suspected that the cause was anti-Semitism.
While condemning the murder of Jewish children in France, you also made a comparison to Arabs in Gaza who are killed. Is this an accurate comparison?
Can you legitimately compare the intentional cold blooded murder of Jews to the tragic deaths of people who are used as human shields by terrorist organizations?
A few weeks ago, you called for calm on both sides, after rockets were fired into Israel and Israel responded by targeting terrorists. You lamented the deaths of innocent civilians on both sides. Simply put, we are outraged.
We demand that you retract your statements, issue a public apology to the families of the murdered Jews, and be more wary for the future.
