Whaling is a very bad thing. Why? Because whales along with sharks keep our ocean ecosystem in balance. In the past many countries fished whales for their blubber. At that time they were being overfished. Since then, many countries have banned or made a quota on whaling, listening to the scientist's warnings of the danger of overfishing whales. Research on whales has continued and one country has used that as an advantage.
Many Japanese companies have a permit to do scientific whaling but they just use that permit for normal whaling. For them the scientific permit is a whaling permit with the guard of the word "scientific". To get away with this they only sell whale products in Japanese stores and restaurants.
