Tell Brixmor Company to Repair Osprey Habitats

In August of 2019, Brixmor Company (property management firm) hired a contractor to replace the lights in the parking lot at 458 US Highway 41 Bypass N in Venice, FL. Two of these parking lot lights had Osprey nests that had Osprey coming and going throughout the day. These nests had been on these lights for over 5 years. When replacing the lights, the contractor removed and threw away the nests. They claim that the nests were "inactive".

According to regulation changes in March of 2017, companies no longer need a survey by FWC to replace light fixtures or other structures that contain Osprey nests if the company claims that the nests are inactive This allows the companies/contractors to "self-monitor". Common sense tells us that allowing companies to self-monitor when it comes to the well-being of wildlife is a disaster. Would a company self-report if it would mean more money and time for them?

Since the regulations changed, Brixmor Company self-monitored and deemed the Osprey nests as "inactive" and discarded them much to the horror of the surrounding community. Venice residents are up in arms over what has been done to these beloved animals that the community has grown to love. The community has watched generation after generation of Osprey born and mature in these nests.

We are asking that Brixmor Company make this right by adding multiple new poles with platforms on top to provide a space for the Osprey to return and build their nests. Please sign to ask Brixmor Company to follow this request to help the Osprey.
