Stop Penrith City Council Internet User Discrimation!!!

Penrith Library run by the Penrith City Council is the only library in the state and one of a few in Australia that does not have free unrestricted internet access for the general public. It charges a sizable fee for this service.

Many people in the Penrith area are on pensions, unemployment benefits and on low incomes.

If you need to use the internet every day then it costs approximately $25 per week which is a large chunk of a pension.

Infomation is vital and most companies refer to their website if you want information. Penrith people are being disadvantaged.

Those people residing in adjoining areas eg Blue Mountains and Parramatta enjoy free internet.

Some Penrith residents journey by train to these other regions to use the internet.

The Penrith Council should allow free internet to allow everybody access to the resouces available in cyberspace

Dear Mr Mayor

I call on you to allow free internet access for all member of the Penrith Library in line with what is offered in every other library system in NSW.

Why should Penrith people be discriminated in this way especially when adjoining councils(Blue Mountains and Parramatta) and others all offer free internet access?

Your Council is denying the right of online information via the internet to those who cannot afford the high fees for use of unlimited internet.
