Keeping Moo Home

A year ago, City of Chesapeake was looking for someone to adopt Moo. Moo is a 200lb potbelly pig. I had asked animal control all the right questions about care and legalities to adopt him. I was told his breed was permitted to be kept outdoors due to his size. Most potbellies are small enough to be kept indoors. I paid the adoption fee and brought him home.

Moo had an illness from the dog pound and with the re-homing stress, it activated a major infection. I had a vet come to the house since Moo wasn't able to move. The vet treated him, but warned me he was pretty sick and may not survive. I spent little more than a week laying with Moo in his shelter in the backyard. Lunch breaks from work was napping with Moo. We bonded pretty well after he got over the illness.

A year later (now) I get a notice in the mail that it is unlawful to have a pig outdoors. Re-homing Moo might be too much for him. I need your help. I am creating this petition for the Norfolk Highlands Neighbors to support my appeal to the city.

This petition is to approve and support Moo, a potbelly pig, to remain at 1224 Lilac Ave as an outdoor animal.

This petition will be presented to the city during the appeals hearing to show that the area neighbors are in knowledge of and support allowing Moo to stay home.

Since I will be seeking a variance in Chesapeake, please only Chesapeake Residents to sign.

Thank you all for your support. I have spoken with the city. There is an ordinance change being proposed next month. They have granted us an extension until the ordinance petition is addressed. An animal rescue service is seeking to have the law changed to allow pigs outdoors and without size limitations.
