Protect Dolphins from Cruel Tank Cleaning

Routine cleaning of dolphin tanks involves dropping the water level, scrubbing the walls, andhosing down the tank. Draining the tanks often forces the dolpins to lie on concrete while workers clean the algea off the walls.

Cove star Ric O'Barry says, " It goes on at all of the 51 dolphin abusement parks in Japan at least once a month—sometimes twice a month in the summer." He adds, "This goes on here in the USA, in Europe, and everywhere else dolphins are held in tanks."

We ask Association of Zoos and Aquariums and Marine Mammal Commission to help change the policy on the way dolphin tanks are "routinely" cleaned and to stop the cruel deprivation of basic cetacean rights. Nowhere in nature, would a dolphin choose to lay on a bare floor.
