Enough is Enough. Ban Assault Weapons Now!

They were watching a movie in Aurora. They were learning to read in Newtown. They were celebrating in San Bernardino. They were dancing in Orlando. They were playing baseball in Alexandria. They were listening to music in Las Vegas. They were praying in Sutherland Springs. They were in class in Parkland. And they were celebrating a new baby in Pittsburgh.

And then they were killed by an assault-style rifle.

Just one example of the many gut-wrenching stories: o
n the morning of October 27th, 2018, a man walked into the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, PA and opened fire on the people joyfully gathered for a baby naming ceremony. Using an AR-15-style assault rifle and at least three handguns, he unleashed a spray of bullets on the congregants for 20 minutes while shouting, "All Jews must die." By the time the massacre was over, 11 people were dead and six injured.

Assault-style rifles are designed to kill a lot of people really quickly. That is their sole purpose, and that is why they are used so often in mass shootings. Seven out of the 10 mass shooting incidents with the highest number of people killed and wounded in the U.S. involved an assault-style rifle.

An assault weapons ban was in place for 10 years in the United States before Congress let it expire in 2004. In the 12 years since the NRA stopped the ban from being reauthorized, the death toll has spiked significantly.

How many more people have to die? How many more families must be torn apart? How many more friends must be lost before our country recognizes the need for gun control?

It is time to say enough is enough. Sign this petition to demand that the U.S. Congress acts now to pass legislation banning assault rifles.
To members of Congress:

They were watching a movie in Aurora. They were learning to read in Newtown. They were celebrating in San Bernardino. And they were dancing in Orlando.

And then they were killed by an assault-style rifle.

In the early morning hours of June 12th, a gunman opened fire on 300 LGBTQ people and allies dancing and celebrating Pride Month at Orlando's Pulse nightclub. Using a highly accurate assault-style rifle that can fire off multiple rounds of ammunition in a short amount of time, he was able to kill at least 50 people and injure at least 53 before he was killed by police.

Because it is so easy to buy an assault-style rifle in the U.S., the Orlando gunman was able to legally buy the gun that he used to massacre 50 people.

How many more people have to die? How many more families must be torn apart? How many more friends must be lost before you recognize the need for gun control?

Enough is enough. Act now to pass legislation banning assault rifles in the United States.
