Lower the voting age to help youth fight for their future

Why is it that we have such a poor voter turnout every election? When you speak to young people and ask them if they are going to vote, the majority of them say "Can't be bothered." And they are completely justified in thinking this way, because honestly, what is really in it for them? Polititians and parties tailor their platforms for the older generations in this country, promising better hospitals, better retirement plans, and more senior benefits. So it is no wonder that the majority of voters are over the age of 54, as those are ones who are going to benefit from the promises.
Voter turnout has been pitiful among youth, and it is only going to continue to decline. We have to make the politians hear us, and we have to demand justice for our generation! The youth are the ones who are going to inherit this planet, and if we don't fight for our rights, we will be left with the shambles and ashes of what our preceding generations were allowed to enjoy. Rally to make the government hear our voices! Rally to demand that political parties promise the youth the bright, green, prosperous future they deserve! But most of all, rally because you deserve to have your voice heard.
I aim this petition not just at the 18-25 years olds, but also at the young families who are also being denied basic rights. A clean, healthy environment is a human right, and it needs to be treated as such. So tell Stephen Harper to lower the voting age, and fight for what you should have been given all along.
