Boy Scouts: Stop Excluding Trans Children and Let Joe Rejoin!

  • af: Kevin Mathews
  • mottagare: Michael B. Surbaugh, CEO of Boy Scouts of America

Currently, the Boy Scouts of America has a policy banning children who were not born as boys from participating in scouts. As a result, Joe Maldonado, an eight-year-old trans boy who joined a local troop with his friends, was kicked out after a month when some parents complain.

The Boy Scouts lagged well behind the times when it came to allowing gay scouts and troop leaders, and now it is doing the same for transgender participants. We urge Michael Surbaugh to lead his organization in the right direction by adjusting the Boy Scout policy to include all children who identify as boys. Joe and other kids just like him deserve the chance to be scouts, too!
