Support People With Disabilities and the Elderly

Adults who have been disabled since childhood and have never been able to work qualify for Supplemental Security Income (SSI), a form of Social Security. The maximum monthly award is $733 per month. This is significantly below poverty level and keeps recipients dependent on support from family or other institutions. Any income or help from others with housing or food reduces this amount. And all forms of Social Security are under attack by politicians who want to unravel this safety net. Please tell Congress that SSI must be increased to at least the federal poverty level and the Social Security system strengthened by raising the cap on taxable income.
