100+ Dogs Tortured in Experiments. Texas Attorney General Blocked Release of Records.

In 2015, the public learned that a laboratory at Texas A&M University conducted horrifically abusive experiments on hundreds of dogs and cats, in which researchers knowingly inflicted pain. In documents submitted to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the university even admitted that it had tortured these animals, leading to pain.

Ken Paxton, the current attorney general of Texas who is now running for a seat in the U.S. Senate, knew all about the situation. And when animal rescue organizations from 23 different states submitted requests for records, he stepped in to block those requests and try to bury the records.

In one specific three year period, from 2005 through 2008, university researchers went to animal shelters and accumulated upwards of 474 live dogs and 86 dead cats to use in experiments. The vast majority of the dogs were euthanized on the same day the university 'acquired' them.

Separately, the university later acquired an additional 428 live dogs and 15 live cats for further laboratory experiments. During these experiments, researchers observed and documented that upwards of 100 of the dogs experienced obvious pain. But that didn't stop the abusive testing.

Why would anyone want to cover up these horrific records and try to block transparency about people knowingly torturing animals that hoped to be adopted into forever homes? And who could possibly support such a shockingly unethical person?
