eco friendly dwelling 09-0497-P

We currently live in our eco friendly, sustainable and low impact home on our 4 acre smallholding which we farm using permaculture methods, working with nature and not against it. We follow the permaculture principles - earth care - peop;le care - fairshare. Unfortunately, our local council thinks houses in this area should be made of "unsustainable" granite and that we should use modern machinery to farm our land, thus using up extra fossil fuels, and also live elsewhere so we would have to travel to our farm, again using fossil fuel. They also state that by farming with our method we are "creating work for ourselves". Is this not a good thing to do considering the present economic climate and the state of the environment?
