Sign the petition to save The Park Gallery, Falkirk

Sign the petition to save The Park Gallery, Falkirk, located in Callendar Park, which is currently under threat of closure. The Council are under pressure to "relocate" it into the already overcrowded Callendar House, a nearby historical visitor attraction.
The Park Gallery is a unique provision in Falkirk, as it is the only dedicated, publicly funded contemporary arts space in Falkirk district and only one of two (the other being the Changing room Stirling) within Forth Valley area. The PG is a free visitor attraction and thereby ensures access for all sections of the public to visit contemporary exhibitions. The PG is nationally recognised as a contemporary arts space by practising artists, the local community, by arts critics and by the wider arts audience after ten years of development. To attempt to reestablish this within a compromised space, for no plausible or credible reason would be almost impossible.
It is the flagship of the arts in the area and closure will lead the Falkirk Council area to become a cultural backwater.

Dear Linda Gow,

We the undersigned, ask you to please reconsider the planned closure of the Park Gallery.  As the only contemporary art space in the Falkirk Area, we believe the proposed relocation of the gallery into Callendar House will be a disaster for arts provision in the Falkirk area.

We believe that the Park Gallery is the flagship of the arts in Falkirk and has become a successful strong brand after ten years of development. It brings in income through saleable exhibitions, and contributes to the cultural, social and mental health of the people of Falkirk.

It has become nationally recognised as a contemporary arts space by practising artists, the local community, by arts critics and by the wider arts audience after ten years of development. To attempt to reestablish this within a compromised space, for no plausible or credible reason would be almost impossible. The PG is a unique provision in Falkirk, the only dedicated, publicly funded contemporary arts space in Falkirk district and only one of two (the other being the Changing room Stirling) within Forth Valley area.

It is a free visitor attraction and thereby ensures access for all sections of the public to visit contemporary exhibitions.

Agreements with artists programmed to exhibit in 2010 have been on basis of and planned in context. Closure of the Park Gallery, in its current location will lead the Falkirk Council area to become a cultural backwater. The Park gallery has an ambitious programme which needs its own dedicated venue.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and please take our views into consideration when making any decisions.
