STOP THE WILD HORSE ROUND UPS
The recent Calico Mountain wild horse round up has killed many horses; the colts never make ANY of the long gallops to the holding pens. The colts of the wild horses are too soft and they split and actually fall off the legs of the colts. The wild horses are rounded up by helicopter, many times the pilot will hit a wild horse. They are ran miles, to fast and too hard. When they reach the holding pens, which are privately funded by your tax dollar to the amount of $1,700,000.00 approximately, the holding pens are too small. The idea for the round up is because the cattle that huge ranchers own are put on public lands, and also sheep. The fresh water supply that comes from the ground is fenced off so the wild horse dehydrates. By the end of the year, there will be about 500 wild horses left, and half of those are to be sterilized. The complaint that the wild horses have destroyed the grass lands are unfounded; the grassy areas are fenced off by cattle owners who use public lands for their private stocks. You can visit one of my favorite sites: www.wildhoofbeats.com and also visit my facebook page and find the actual documentation of who is behind this. The story called the Conspiracy of the Wild Horse documents the state of the health that the adult horses are in when they arrive. They are exhausted. Many are lame. They have nearly destroyed the entire population. There are less than 5 thousand wild horses left in the entire United States; about 3,000 really. The final phase of the wild horse round ups will leave less than 500, 250 of those will be allowed to breed. If there is disease or a hard winter, they will cease to exist. It has been founded that British Petroleum and the cattle ranchers are behind the push to exterminate the wild horse. Secretary Salazar stated that there is no place for the wild horse on public lands. The wild horse originated right here in the United States. The acts of previous cattle owners who nearly exterminated the wild horse several hundred years ago, brought about such an out cry that the government enacted the Wild Horse and Burro Act. This did no good. The Bureau of Land Management which is a Department of the Dept. of Interior, has as it's head a person who was working for the Dept. of Interior regulating the leasing of the oil rigs on the Gulf of Mexico; she then finally was transferred to the Department of Land Management. Since then, every survey and statistic they have produced has been skewed to reflect inaccurate reports so that they can cater to the cattle, sheep and oil industries. There is no reason why the oil industry can not make pipelines safe, or the cattlemen can't plant grains and grasses in exchange for their cattle grazing, and they have to stop fencing off the grass lands and the fresh water supplies to starve and kill out the wild horses. If the cattlemen want to put their cattle on public lands, they have to regard the wildlife of every species. The wild horse is not on any endangered list, but they are in and have been exterminated quickly. The idea that many new horse meat factories are opening up lets me know that the people who were wealthy bought wild horses to sell them to the horse meat factories. I hope you will visit the sites, and I hope you will join me in this endeavor to stop all round ups of wild horses. Nature takes care of itself. The very fact that wolves, bear, and other species are natural predators of the wild horse gives credence to the nature of how it is balanced. Please, please join me in this fight. Thank you.
