A Mountain Lion Was Part of a Conservation Study. Poachers Illegally Shot and Killed Her.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife recently responded to a report near Gunnison City Mountain Park, where someone found a mountain lion shot dead. This means someone shot a female mountain lion in the chest and left it in the bushes outside of the state's legal hunting season. This is poaching, plain and simple. And it's time that local authorities find out who is responsible and hold them accountable.

Sign now to tell Colorado Parks and Wildlife: fully investigate this case to find out who killed the poor mountain lion!

Other possible explanations of the mountain lion's death don't add up. It is legal for animals to be killed in self-defense, but those instances must be immediately reported to the state agency.

To make matters worse, the poor mountain lion was a part of Colorado Parks and Wildlife's mountain lion density study that was taking place in the Gunnison Basin. Studies like this are vital for understanding mountain lion behavior and ensuring states prioritize conservation. Now, one of the few mountain lions participating in the study is dead.

Every animal lost to poaching is a needless, violent death that could have been prevented. We must ensure that Colorado Parks and Wildlife take this case seriously in order to prevent any other mountain lions from being senselessly killed in the future. Sign the petition now if you agree!
