In late February, five teenage boys discovered the grievously wounded dog
alone in the wilderness while they were out four-wheeling off of Buckman Road.
The boys, Cole Bodelson, Avery Diercks, Ryan Lee, Tristan Gress and Will Gibbs,
could see that the medium-sized, black dog was seriously injured...she was curled up and not moving and she "smelled of death."
The teens, all 16 years of age, picked up the dog, who has been named "Lily,"
and put her into their truck - they proceeded to a veterinary clinic for emergency care.
Lily's ailments were severe - she was covered in cactus quills,
her paw was nearly severed, and her body was riddled with pellets.
Today, Lily is recuperating from her injuries under the care of the Santa Fe Animal Shelter
and Humane Society. Lily's leg wound up having to be amputated, but she is doing much better.
On Tuesday, the animal shelter shared this heartwarming post with their Facebook followers:
Look who's been spending time with me in our office - Lily!
We're trying to make sure she gets some exercise and get used to walking on three legs.
Her balance is good, but she is still unsure of herself.
She did relax in the office! Lily was found with
a severed paw and so our veterinarians had to amputate her leg.
She's still improving every day! Thanks again to the teens who saved her.
One of Lily's rescuers, Cole Bodelson, has indicated that he would like to become Lily's guardian.
He told the Santa Fe New Mexican:
"You share a kind of a bond with a animal you save,
We found her for some reason."
Blessed be all these young men, it is so refreshing to see teens who care for animals
after we have been witnessing so much cruelty being made by teenagers.
