Ratify Convention on the Rights of the Child Now!

The Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989) (CRC) protects "children from physical and mental abuse and hazardous work, and giving children the right to free primary education, the CRC has been ratified by 193 countries, making it one of the most widely adopted conventions. President Clinton signed the CRC in 1995 but the United States has yet to ratify it, one of only two countries in the world not to do so.

Nearly 25 years ago, the world made a promise to children: that we would do everything in our power to protect and promote their rights to survive and thrive, to learn and grow, to make their voices heard and to reach their full potential. In spite of the overall gains, there are many children who have fallen even further behind. Old challenges have combined with new problems to deprive many children of their rights and the benefits of development.

We The People Demand: Immediate ratification of CRC and the passage of adequate legislation ensuring the provisions of CRC are enforceable in state and federal courts.
