Women Are Expected to Give Their Lives to Avoid Rape

Spain is outraged, and the rest of us should be too. A few days ago a Court  decided that the gang rape committed by a group of men in the festival of San Fermin 2016 should be considered sexual abuse rather than sexual assault. The decision comes because the victim "didn't resist".

Now the panalty will be much lower for these offenders and that's not right. Sign on to change Spanish penal code to define rape as anything without express and enthusiastic consent.

The girl who suffered this gang rape went into shock immediately once she was surrounded by five men in a narrow entrance hall fo a building. She did was is extremely common for victims of assault - she froze, went silent and hoped to live. She did not give consent. She did nothing wrong and has suffered a terrible tragedy. Now the perpetrators will barely have to pay for their crime.

We can't let Spanish law put the responsibility of resisting with their life on victims of rape. Our Penal Code needs an update to change the legal definition of rape.

Sign this petition now, and ask the Spanish Parliament to amend the Spanish Penal Code to define the crime of sexual assault by the existence or non-existence of consent.

Very sad to report that this decision continues to be upheld by judges in Spain. The rapists have now been deemed “the wolf pack” and honestly, if nothing changes, they and many more rapists like them will not ever be punished for their heinous crimes.
