So that whoever gets more votes in the election wins, and so it is fair to independent cantidates and minority parties.

Dear President,
    I have always been a critic of the electoral college for many reasons. One of the reasons it that somebody like you, who would be a good president, will get the job if more people vote for them. My example is in 2000, when Bush beat Gore, even though Gore got more votes. Our election system was so complex, we didn't even understand it that year. The government needs to listen to the people now more than ever in these hard times.
