Research studies from the UK and Europe has shown that consumption of mixes of certain artificial food colours and the preservative sodium benzoate could be linked to increased hyperactivity in some children. The effects have been observed and documented on all children, not just those with underlying issues (ADD, ASD, HDD, etc). In Europe, many foods marketed at children do not contain these harmful chemicals. The artificial colours are responsible for giving food colour (sometimes a garish, neon hue) and are absolutely unnecessary.
The artificial colours are: sunset yellow FCF (E110) quinoline yellow (E104) carmoisine (E122) allura red (E129) tartrazine (E102) ponceau 4R (E124)
