Support Saving Energy At Souhegan High School!

We, the undersigned, support the implementation of an energy saving initiative at Souhegan High School. This program will be designed specifically to make Souhegan a more eco-friendly school. The main goal of this initiative is to encourage energy saving in classrooms by having teachers and students turn off the lights when leaving the classroom.
Currently, lights in some classrooms are being left on after school and into the nighttime, when nobody is even in the building. This is a waste of energy, as according to the US Department of Energy, only 10% of the energy that is being produced is actually creating light; the other 90% is just creating heat. If we are turning the lights of, then we are limiting the amount of wasted energy that inhabits our classrooms every morning.
By leaving the lights on at night, we are also spending extra money which is coming out of taxpayers wallets.According to Seattle lawmakers, utility bills are the second-largest expense that a school has to pay, and lighting makes up a whooping 40% of that. By cutting out lighting costs, the school would be saving money that would be able to fund other programs or lower taxes. These lawmakers also found that by turning the lights of, it led to a decrease in the amount of crime and theft that a school experiences.
