Don't Destroy Hiawatha Preserve, Build a Better Boat Ramp!

On December 12th, 2017, the Clermont City Council voted, against strong public opposition, to place the new boat ramp in Lake Hiawatha Preserve. The new ramp will cost millions to build and maintain. It will require cutting down hundreds of trees and destroying the last remaining wetlands on Lake Minneola. It will also require expensive, ongoing dredging. The City refuses to say why they won't use the previously agreed-upon Bell Ceramics site off East Ave., an open area which won't require such environmental degradation. We call on the Council to use an open, fair process to give Clermont the best boat ramp it can have: move it to the Bell Ceramics site, or leave it where it is.
