If AOC And Ted Cruz Agree, Let's Put a Permanent Lobbying Ban on Ex-Lawmakers

A weird exchange on Twitter broke out recently between Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Ted Cruz over the corruptive effect of lobbying on politics. They may be from opposite ends of the political spectrum, but it turns out they both agree that lawmakers shouldn't be able to transition into lobbyists.

Case in point, 60 percent of the members of Congress who left office at the end of the 2018 term are already corporate lobbyists. They sure didn't waste any time trading in their political influence for hefty checks.

Most Americans would agree with this unlikely legislative duo that this is a practice that needs to stop. Now that they've agreed to write non-partisan legislative to get it done, let's encourage the entirety of Congress to get behind it to help improve democracy.

It may be a hard sell to convince lawmakers to limit easy future earnings, but it's for the good of country. This is how you really drain the swamp. If AOC and Cruz can see the wisdom in this, all of Congress should be in lockstep!
