The August 8, 1978 police attack on MOVE followed years of police brutality against MOVE and was a major military operation carried out by the Philadelphia police department under orders of then-mayor, Frank Rizzo. Mayor Rizzo’s reputation for racism and brutality was well known–it followed him up through the ranks of the police department to the police commissioner’s office to the mayor’s office. Within a few hours of their arrest, their home (which is supposed to be the “scene of the crime” and therefore evidence) was deliberately destroyed, demolished, by city officials when they were legally obligated to preserve all evidence, but they were held for trial anyway. They went to trial before Judge Edward Malmed who convicted all nine of them of third degree murder (while admitting that he didn’t have “the faintest idea” who killed Ramp) and sentenced each of them to 30 – 100 years in prison. 36 years later these innocent people are still being denied parole mostly on grounds that they show no remorse - but they were never guilty to start with. Please sign my petition to start the ball rolling that can finally get them released. One of them has already died in prison after being denied medical treatment.

Dear Ms Abrahams

Imprisoning the Move9 in 1978 was a blatant act of discrimination. In today's political open-mindedness it seems even more cruel to keep them in prison.

They have repeatedly been denied parole for no good reason. Please start a transparent investigation into why they are still being held thirty-six years later when they did no wrong to start with. We are all entitled to our own cultural ideology and just because ours is different to the mainstream culture of consumerism/capitalism does not make it any less valid.

We are on the side of life over technology - in this climate of a trashed earth heritage we believe it to be the only approach. Surely we too are entitled to our beliefs.
