We are the United States Submarine Veterans Inc and have felt there is a need to honor the men who made the supreme sacrifice while serving their country in submarines. United States Submarine Veterans, Inc is a national organization made up of United States Submarine Veterans. Our main reason for existence is to perpetuate the memory of all the Submarines and Submarine Sailors that have been lost both during times of conflict and during peacetime. We are working with the United States Naval Station at Keyport, WA to obtain a surplus, non-functioning torpedo that would be mounted on an attractive concrete stand. We would like to see the City of Tacoma erect a memorial that will honor the 52 submarines lost during WWII, as well as all submarines lost during peacetime. We have an old inactive torpedo that would be set on a concrete support, with a bronze plaque dedicated to the memory of all lost submarines and their crews. The location for the memorial has yet to be determined however, we would like to have it installed at the Blue Star Military Memorial at the Narrows Bridge.
