Stop charging home gardeners for buying seeds interstate and overseas

  • af: Trevor Cochrane

We do not accept that home gardeners should carry inspection charges for packets of seed purchsed from reputable seed suppliers. The food and agriculture department has the obligation to protect home gardeners as well as crops and as such should drop individual charges and develop an accreditation system with seed companies to ensure seeds imported into Western Australia meet the criteria they are planning to charge home gardeners for. The department must act in the interests of the community and not make a cash grab against home gardeners.
