Keep Our Neighborhood Safe For Our Familes.

A high density development is being considered by the City of Portland, TN. This development proposed on Jim Courtney Road will endanger the residents in the area because of narrow, winding roads. The roads are without shoulders, bike paths, or sidewalks. The high traffic caused by this development will not only endanger the safety of drivers in the area but will not allow bicycle movement without endangering the riders, whether children or adults. A draw to many children riding their bikes is the location of Richland park with their many "child focused" activities.
Other concerns are the many speeding drivers already using the area. With the new road surfacing faster drivers are already a safety concern for residents.
In addition, the poor drainage in the bottom area on Jim Courtney and Old Parkers Road causes roads to flood in heavy rains.
The Residents are NOT against the area being developed as the developer once proposed as 5 acre (est) lots. Residents understand land will be developed but it should be developed with consideration of the area, roads, and the needs of the residents in the local area.
