Beauty Pageants Are Archaic - Tell Miss Universe to Stop Judging Women by Appearances

Great news! Starting in 2019, the Miss America Competition will no longer be a pageant. The Miss America Organization announced today that women in the competition will no longer be judged on their appearance, and canceled the swimsuit and evening gown portions of the competition to prove it.

This is a great step forward for women, and we applaud the Miss America Organization for changing with the times. Now, we're calling on the Miss Universe Organization to do the same.

Please sign this petition asking the Miss Universe Organization to stop judging women and girls by their appearances in its Miss USA, Miss Universe, and Miss Teen USA competitions.

Beauty pageants that parade women wearing evening gowns or bikinis and high heels around are extremely outdated. Women have something to say, and the world is ready to listen. We should be celebrating all women for their intelligence, talent, humor, and their contributions to society -- not just women who fit within a specific standard of beauty for their appearance.

This is especially true in the case of Miss Teen USA. Judging a young girl's worth based on her appearance in swim or evening wear can be incredibly damaging for the girls competing and girls who aspire to compete.

Miss Universe needs to follow Miss America's lead. Please sign this petition demanding that the Miss Universe Organization stop being a beauty pageant today!
