Let ALL Women Compete for Miss Universe Canada
Update: Thanks to the public's outcry, Jenna Talackova will be allowed to compete in Miss Universe Canada pageant. Now please sign the petition so that EVERYONE who identifies as a woman will be able to compete!
Jenna Talackova was recently disqualified from competition in the Miss Universe Canada pageant. It came as a surprise because she definitely meets the eligibility requirements: She's an unmarried Canadian citizen, not pregnant, and she's in the 18-27 age bracket required by contest guidelines. Yet she was still unjustly expelled from the competition for being transgendered.
Miss Universe Canada eligibility guidelines say nothing about surgery, and contestants are not disqualified for having undergone cosmetic surgery. Although Talackova has been reinstated, countless other women may have been unjustly prohibited from competition."
Tell the Miss Universe Canada directors to allow ALL women to compete for the pageant's coveted title.
We the undersigned believe all women should be allowed to compete on an equal footing in beauty pageants, and that includes the Miss Universe Canada competition. You should not discriminate someone who was not born a woman. If she identifies as female, she should be treated as such. We consider your disqualification of Jenna Talackova to be a form of discrimination, plain and simple. Even your published guidelines do not state that a contestant cannot have undergone sexual assignment surgery. Please let all women compete!
