Ask Chicago Mayor Emanuel - Improve Safety Standards of Popular Dog Beach

Please sign and share this petition on all media sites in an effort to get the Chicago Mayor and his administration to clean up, remodel and improve the ever-popular Montrose Harbor Dog Park in Chicago. The area has recently become trashed and the fencing in disarray, putting any of the dogs in danger. Since the park is near heavy traffic, poor confinement by inappropriate fencing can cause a dog to wander off and get hit by a motor vehicle. Pet owners and their water-loving dogs are disgruntled with the appearance and hazardous conditions of the beach-front dog park.

The dog beach at Montrose Beach is one of the largest in the city and one of the few places where dogs can legally be off leash and get exercise. Dog owners state that this beach-front dog park has seen better days. Additionally, wind has built up the sand along the fence to where many dogs cam climb right over. Broken fences are also an issue. Dog owners are understandably upset and have made other efforts, along with this petition to get the park district to fix up the park they love.

The Chicago Park District states that within the last few years they replaced some of the fencing and just in the past two weeks extended the line of the fence towards the lake, and that the lake has receded to the point that the old fence was too far away. It needs to be fixed and extended for the fun and safety of the animals; the park needs to be renovated to meet all safety standards and be used as it is intended! Let's get the Park District and the Mayor's Office to commit in making the appropriate changes necessary for the fun, comfort and safety of the dogs who love to frequent the Montrose Harbor Park and Dog Beach.

Chicago Park District and Mayor Rahm Emanuel - Understandably, budgets are tight and, Mayor, you are doing so much for the City of Chicago, but you cannot forget about the safety needs of man's best friend. The dog park at Montrose Beach is one of the largest in the city and one of the few places where dogs can legally be off leash and get exercise. However, there are some major safety factors that exist, needing your attention. The beach needs to be revamped and remodeled, with some new, safe fencing so that dogs and their owners can enjoy the beauty of the city in a secure environment. Please ensure that you make the proper improvements so that dog owners can feel comfort in knowing their dogs are safe while enjoying the park and beach presented specifically for them. Please help all dog owners and make necessary safe improvements for the Chicago canines.
