We demand that the school district policy be changed to completely screen each student and staff member when multiple cases of head lice are found in the school vs their current policy to limit it to just the classes of those infected. Head lice spreads quickly and without direct contact with the infected person. The only way to contain an outbreak of head lice in an area is to completely screen each person in that area and remove the infected for treatment.
Instead the DeWitt School District screens kids who are scratching thier heads and just the class in which they are assigned. This is not effective because once a child is scratching thier heads, they've been infected for days already, spreading the parasite to others. Head lice can jump from one person to another without direct contact, just screen the class that the child is assigned to is not effective.
To treat the area for head lice, every child and member of staff must be screened and every infected person removed for treatment and not allowed to return until the parasite and eggs are completely removed. If multiple cases arise again in the school, the process must be repeated.
