Demand harsh punishment for the brutal killing of a dog in Napanee, Ontario.

Court date is November 15th, 2012.  Please sign and share this petition ASAP!

We, the undersigned, respectfully request that if proven guilty, Travis Haaksman and Carl Wood receive a harsh sentence.

Two 18 year-olds from Napanee have been charged after a dog was found dead.

Police found a dog submerged in a quarry on Kimmett Side Road.
Officers say the black and white dog had a choke chain around it's neck along with a collar and a leash that had been looped through a cinder block.
Travis Haaksman and Carl Wood have been charged with killing or injuring an animal under the Criminal Code.

The abuse of an animal is often the first indicator of domestic violence. A criminal who abuses animals exhibits disdain for life and a willingness to target and abuse the most defenseless of creatures.

Most recently is the horrific death of Tori Stafford; Her killer Terri-Lynne McClintic admitted that in her youth she killed a dog in a microwave. Animal torture by young people is considered by forensic psychiatrists as a indication of adult psychopathic behavior.  A harsher punishment for the cruelty to animals is an essential step in protecting the community.

Dear Judge Griffin,

Having collected over 8000 signatures on this petition as well as signatures on well over a thousand hand written petitions it accurately stresses the importance for the need, and concerned citizens desire, for stricter penalties in cases of animal abuse!

Travis Haaksman and Carl Wood have been charged with killing an animal under the Criminal Code. Not only are we concerned about the brutal nature of this crime but the fact that there is a direct correlation between animal cruelty and violence perpetrated against others, particularly women and children. The abuse of an animal is often the first indicator of domestic violence. A criminal who abuses animals exhibits disdain for life and a willingness to target and abuse the most defenceless of creatures.

If the evidence in this case proves they are guilty, we hope you will see fit to punish them to the greatest extent that the law allows. A harsher punishment for the cruelty to animals is an essential step in protecting the community.

Thank you for your consideration of this important matter.

Sincerely,
